4 questions about the Android Go smartphone from Samsung answered

...

More and more sources confirm that Samsung is working on a smartphone that runs on Android Go. But what do we know already about the specifications, release date and software?

1. A Android Go smartphone from Samsung? So what?

It increasingly seems that Samsung is soon also Android Go is embracing. This special version of Android was developed for smart phones with weaker hardware. The software requires less storage space, apps that are less graphically intensive, and gets a raft of updates. The Nokia 1 is the first device with Android Go in the Netherlands, but also Huawei, General Mobile, and Alcatel are working on such devices.

If Samsung is indeed in that list of adds, it would be a striking step. The South Korean manufacturer makes many changes to Android, such as apps and the voice activated assistant Bixby. With Android Go can manufacturers that adjustments are correct not to do.

Moreover, it seems Samsung is the last few years, pulling away from the budgetmarkt. The cheapest smartphone that the company this year released, the Galaxy J6, a unit with a suggested retail price of 269 euro. The company rarely phones of less than $ 200. That while all Android Go smartphones until now, a maximum of 100 euros costs.

2. What are the specifications?

A set of leaked specifications suggests that the hardware in any case is in line with other Android Go devices: solid, but far from powerful. Thus, there is a 1.4 GHz chip with four cores, 1GB of ram and 16GB of storage. On the back is an 8 megapixel camera, front a 5 megapixel camera.

Especially conspicuous is the 5 inch screen. This would be Samsung amoled image want to use. Lot of (budget)smartphones use lcd screens. Amoled, however, offers a colourful image with a higher brightness, which is a substantial plus. The Nokia 1, for example, has an lcd screen that is outside in the sun hard to read.

3. Is the Samsung Android Go smartphone, go to the Netherlands?

The cheapest smartphones that Samsung releases will not appear anymore in the Netherlands. Here the company sets focus on midrange smartphones like the Galaxy A8 and flagships as the Galaxy S9. That have a much higher profit margin. The Android Go device seems at first glance, therefore, mainly focused on emerging countries, such as India and Pakistan.

Still, it seems that Samsung also European plans. According to the usually reliable Sammobile is of a prototype of the smartphone with model number SM-J260F among other tested in Germany, the United Kingdom and France. The netherlands is not explicitly mentioned, but we think the chances are that the device also shows up, as in our neighbouring countries is sold.

4. What are the expected release date and suggested retail price?

Samsung has the existence of the Android Go-smartphone is not yet confirmed, so details about the release are still missing. Given the large number of rumors, it sounds like an official announcement won’t be long in coming. We expect that the device for the end of the summer the light of day see.

Also the price is unknown. Given the leaked specifications, we expect, however, that the smartphone between 100 and 200 euros. Do you want to stay informed about the Android Go smartphone from Samsung? Download the Android Planet app, and follow the latest news on the foot.
